The Intensive Summer Program at Kirova Ballet Academy offers serious ballet students the highest quality of intensive classical Vaganova ballet training, strengthened by a variety of other dance forms necessary to for the development of today’s dancers

Kirova Ballet offers an intensive 4 weeks training program in wonderful and welcoming Hallandale Beach in July. We offer two programs: Intermediate and Advanced for the students seeking to take the next step in their dancing careers.

Classes include classical technique, pointe and variations, modern/contemporary, partnering and character dance.

Our classes begin at 9:00 am and run through 3:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Each year, at the end of the ISP, our students will showcase a performance at our studio.

ELIGIBILITY

We welcome applicants who are:

  • ages 9-18 (at the time of application)
  • seriously considering dance as a career
  • intermediate & advanced dancers with significant training in classical ballet
  • enrollment is limited to 40 students who demonstrate the required skills

TIME FRAME

Kirova ISP 2018 runs for 4 weeks from July 2nd -July 27th, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.

SCHEDULE & CURRICULUM

The curriculum of the 2018 KBA Summer Intensive includes high level technique classes on subjects critical to the development of a complete dancer. Our philosophy centers on education of a complete dancer with practice in majority of classical and current dance styles and techniques. Our dancers are prepared to work with any dance company upon graduation. Classes for the 2018 Summer Intensive may include:

Ballet Technique, Pointe , Partnering , Variations, Men’s Technique, Men’s Variations, Modern, Contemporary, Jazz, Progressing Ballet technique, Neo-classical, Contemporary on pointe, flexibility classes, Acting for Dancers/Mime. Character, Dance History, Yoga, Meet the Artist, injury prevention.

Students take a minimum of four classes per day, consisting of daily technique and pointe, followed by the supplemental classes listed above. In addition, dancers may have rehearsals on occasional evenings for a final performance.

Our schedules are different for each one of the 4 weeks training:

Week I – Roudnev Youth Ballet may include technique, pointe, character, repertoire, variations, pas de deux, modern, PBT, conditioning.

Week 2 – Vaganova emphasis. Miss Elena Dmitrieva and Janna Kirova, classes may include technique, pointe, character, repertoire, variations, modern, contemporary, flexibility, PBT, conditioning classes, nutritional clinics, dance history and injury prevention.

Week 3 – Modern dance emphasis, KBA faculty and guest teachers classes may include jazz, contemporary, modern, neo-classical, contemporary on pointe, Horton, hip hop, improv, PBT, flexibility, conditioning, dance exploration, acting for dancers, musical theater, yoga.

Week 4 – Vaganova emphasis and performance preparation classes may include technique, pointe, character, repertoire, variations, performance

FACULTY

The classes are taught by distinguished faculty from Mariinsky Theater and Vaganova Ballet Academy, St. Petersburg, Russia; together with the faculty from Kirova Ballet Academy, including Artistic Director Janna Kirova.

AUDITIONS

Acceptance to Miami Intensive Summer Program is by audition only. There are various ways to audition for the program: in person at the studio or by video submission.

In person auditions take place during scheduled classes according to your training level.  Recommended class will be determined by KBA In person auditions are $25.

Video auditions are $35 and payable at the time of submission. Video Auditions are accepted via video link with the audition registration form. Submit a video upload (via YouTube, Vimeo, or other video link) and enter the hyperlink in the audition registration form. Video should be no longer than 10 minutes, with the student’s head and feet showing always. The camera must be centered and perpendicular to the barre.

Please include photo positions described above in the beginning of video, followed by:

barre – plié, battements tendu/jeté, adagio, ronds de jambe par terre, ronds de jambe en l’air, grands battement.

Center – tendu, adagio, pirouettes, medium allegro with entre chat quatre. Center pointe exercises (Ladies only) – relevé/echappé, pirouettes en dehors and en dedans in 3/4 time piqué tours from corner to corner grand allegro.

Center (Men only) – adagio, pirouettes en dehors and en dedans in 4/4 time medium allegro with jeté and assemblé battu.

 

LIVING ARRANGEMENTS

Kirova ISP is offering student living arrangements with our current ballet families as part of our cultural immersion program. Cost is $600 for the 4 week stay and includes transportation to the studio and meals. All requests must be receive by April 15th.

END OF ISP SHOW

Students will showcase their progress in a demonstration on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Kirova Ballet studio.

COST

Registration $100 (full program) or $25 for weekly program (per week)

Non-refundable tuition deposit $500 and registration fee are due with the registration form.

Tuition balance $900 must be paid in full by June 1st.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Kirova Ballet Academy offers a limited amount of partial and full scholarships through our Kirova Ballet Scholarship fund. Merit‑based scholarships are offered to students carefully selected by KBA Director. Those students who have been awarded a merit based tuition scholarship will be notified of this in their audition result letter.

Need-based financial aid is available to students participating in Summer Intensive programs. There is a $35 financial aid application fee that is paid directly to Kirova Ballet Scholarship Fund at the time of submitting the financial aid application.

APPLICATION PROCESS

All applicants must submit the acceptance form to Kirova Ballet by April 30th to secure their spot in the Summer Intensive Program. Form received after April 30th will be processed on first come, first served basis.
